What 103 patent filings from Google, DeepMind and OpenAI say about being cited by an AI answer
The GEO Patent Book sets out what 103 patent filings from Google, DeepMind and OpenAI say about being cited by an AI answer. GEO means generative engine optimisation.
Marc Moeller wrote it for the GEO workshop he taught at the Shenzhen SEO Conference 2026 and gave it to every attendee. This public edition (October 2026) is the same text, now free for anyone under CC BY 4.0.
PDF, 55 pages: branded cover, author page, then the 53-page workshop text. Free under CC BY 4.0.

Eleven chapters, from getting fetched to which source gets the link, ending with a plan for better search visibility.
The book is built on 103 patent filings from Google, DeepMind and OpenAI. Every filing has a priority date of 2020 or later, and every one was read in full. A patent is a filing, not a shipped product. The book describes what the filings say, never what a search engine does.

Both tools are free and open source under AGPL-3.0, from the same work as the book.
